The New England Fish Company records document the history of the company and its affiliates from 1902 through NEFCO's formal dissolution. Specific materials include: articles of incorporation, by-laws, correspondence, financial records, histories, legal case files, maps, meeting minutes, newsletters, product labels, and reports. Subsidiary businesses represented include: CANFISCO, which had plants and canneries throughout Alaska, Canada, Florida, Oregon, and Washington State. Other notable plants and operations include locations in Alaska: Bristol Bay area (Egegik Cannery and Pederson Point Cannery); Kodiak area (Gibson Cove and Uganik Cannery); Peninsula area (Sandpoint Cannery); Prince William Sound area (Orca Cannery in Cordova), as well the following operations: Seward Fisheries, Ketchikan Cannery, Ketchikan Cold Storage, and the Theresa Lee processing vessel. Locations for plants in Canada include: Prince Rupert (Atlin and Oceanside), Nova Scotia (Woods Harbour), and in Vancouver, British Columbia (the CANFISCO home plant). NEFCO also had a plant in Miami, Florida; and plants in Newport and Warrenton, Oregon. In Washington State, there were plants in Anacortes, Seattle, La Connor, and La Push. There was additionally a labeling facility at King Terminals, Inc. in Seattle.

The New England Fish Company (NEFCO) was founded in 1868 when eleven wholesale fish dealers met in Boston, Massachusetts, for the purpose of systematically marketing the catch of halibut fishermen. Initially, NEFCO established a system of cooperative buying and distribution.
